About Ms. Rosenberg The 2009-2010 school year is my ninth year teaching at Rocky Hill High School. Generally speaking, I always teach the 9th grade world history course and rotate through teaching many of the other department offerings. In 2001, I graduated from American University with a BA in both history and secondary education. I received my master’s degree in education in 2008 from the University of New England. Classroom Guidelines and Procedures Behavior: Appropriate classroom behavior is expected at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, listening to others, acting in a respectful manner to fellow classmates and teachers alike, and using appropriate language. Failure to follow class guidelines will result in disciplinary action, ranging from a teacher detention to office referral. Preparedness: You are expected to come to class prepared everyday with your book/binder, homework, and a pen/pencil. It is also expected that you participate in class on a daily basis. Electronic Devices: The RHHS policy states that cell phones must be off and out of sight at all times. Confiscated cell phones will be turned into the office to be retrieved. MP3 players are allowed during study halls only. Detentions: Should you receive a teacher detention, you will have 3 days to serve it after school. Detentions usually last 30 minutes. Participation: Every student receives a daily or weekly participation grade based on participation, preparation, and behavior. To receive full credit, an individual must not only be prepared and well behaved all week, but also contribute in a positive and thoughtful manner on a regular basis. Sitting in class silently will not result in full credit. Attendance: Regular classroom attendance is important. Class credit may be lost if you have unexcused absences of over 8 days in a semester course or 16 days for a full year class. Tardiness is not tolerated. Five tardies in a single quarter results in a Saturday Detention. Continued lateness may also result in additional disciplinary action at teacher discretion. Make-Up Work: RHHS policy dictates that students have one day to make up work for each day absent. It is the student’s responsibility to seek out make-up work and then submit it in a timely manner. Long term assignments are exempt from this policy. Note that this policy refers to excused absences - students who cut class will receive a zero on all work missed. Academic Integrity There are few issues I take more seriously than academic integrity in all aspects of school work. All forms of cheating, plagiarism, copying, etc. are unacceptable in my classroom. Students who are discovered to have engaged in these acts will be referred to the office for disciplinary action. More than any office consequence, however, is the loss of trust between the student and myself. You are to assume that all work is to be done independently unless otherwise indicated - working together does not mean you copy answers. Everyone is expected to come up with his or her own answers. Please see the class honor code for more information. |
