It is very important to have an understanding of what is taking place in the world around you. Follow the guidelines below to complete this assignment correctly.

Select an appropriate article from a reputable source.
- Articles must be about an important issue that has national or global implications
- Articles cannot be about sports or entertainment issues
- Articles should be of a proper length (longer than a few paragraphs)
- Article should be from within the last two weeks
- Sources you may want to use include news websites, newspapers, or magazines. See the list below for examples.

Read the article carefully.

Respond to the article.
- Provide the Source, Article Title, Author, and Date
- If submitting online, provide the URL of the article. If handing in, provide a copy of the article (photocopy, original, or printed copy)
- Briefly summarize the article in your OWN words (3-5 sentences)
- React to the article - take a position, how does the subject make you feel, how does it impact you, etc. (5 sentence minimum)
- Wider Impact - explain how this event impacts the national and/or global community (5 sentence minimum)

Submit the assignment.
- You may type or handwrite the assignment and submit in class on the due date
- You may submit your assignment online, using the form on the class website. You must submit by the due date.
This is not a critique of whether or not you liked the article but rather a reasoned opinion of the issue presented in the article. Your response should be organized and follow proper grammatical conventions.
